Lamkin Handicrafts

My main focus over the last week or 2 has been getting my business up and running. I've decided to broaden the focus of my company to include other handcrafted goods so I don't get burned out focusing on only one form of creativity. I don't see the company as much of a way to earn money, but as a way to share the joys a handmade piece of art can bring, whether it be handpainted yarn, soap, a hand bound journal, or something completely differnet.

I never expected I would have such a difficult time drafting a business plan. To be honest, I probably would have skimped out on that fact if it weren't for the harassment encouragement from the husband. Since he recently formed his company into a corporation and is moving into an actual office soon I figured taking his advice might be advisable. Left to my own devices I probably would be flying by the seat of my pants, making pretty things and hoping people would want to give me money for them! Instead, I've completed my new DBA form and plan on getting it filed Monday. The following day, I will be having a meeting at my bank to open a small business account. details, details.

Now for what you are probably wondering... "When will she start selling stuff already?!" I plan to have my shop open, completely stocked with lots of goodies, December 1st! However, in the meantime I will be selling a small amount of goods to build capital to be able to fund some initial items. This will be on a fairly small scale and you will more than likely see any items I have for sale in an update on my blog.

FYI: I just cranked out a batch of Rosemary Mint soap this afternoon. ;) Next up: Chocolate Mint, Lavender, or maybe Tea Tree? I haven't decided.
