the bargain hunting gene

I have definitely inherited the Bargain Hunting Gene from my grandma. She was a master at it. She had to be with feeding 8 kids, a husband and numerous pets! With the economy we face today I am extremely grateful I am able to follow in her ways.

I've been reading a host of frugal blogs lately, and one thing that really amazed me were the deals all these people were able to get at CVS. So earlier this week I decided to give it a shot. Here's what I was able to come away with:

3 Speed Stick Deodorants
1 Maybelliene Superstay LipGloss
3 Colgate Total Toothpastes
1 LypSyl lipbalm (which is my new favorite!)

Subtotal: 26.92
Coupons: 11.00

Total with tax: 17.12

But, with the CVS Extra Care Bucks program I made back $23.95! So in actuality CVS paid me $6.83 to take these items home. Yes, I will be using all these products I'm buying. It is a common trap for people to snip coupons for things that they will never use. With the budget I maintain I'm VERY careful not to buy any items like this.

If you're interested in trying out this little CVS game of shopping check out CVS 101 at Moneysavingmom for a wonderful explanation of the basics!

You did a great job for your first time.

I will agree with you that when sticking to a budget you have to be careful that you don't fall into the trap of buying things that you are not going to use. It is just good $$ that has been wasted. :)
